Topic Two: Pattern and Ornament, part 1 of 2 : sculpture project

Turning a 2-D drawing into a sculpture

Tools :
Paper
Scissors
Clear Tape
X-acto knife
Pink marker

Instructions:
Draw out 2 medium sized circles on the paper and cut them out with the x-Acto knife or scissors

Cut out a strip of paper about 3-5 inches wide

Roll the strip of paper into a cylinder shape

Tape the cylinder so it stays closed

Place one cut out circle on top of the opening of the cylinder

Make adjustments to the cylinder so the circumferences match

Once they are the same size tape the circle on top of the cylinder

do the same on the opposite end to make it closed

With the X-acto knife cut a slit on 2 sides of the cylinder

From a piece of paper cut 2 strips of paper about  1/2 an inch wide

Fold each pieces of paper in 1/2 then stick it into the slits on the cylinder

cut 2 pieces of paper skinny enough to cover the top and bottom of the folded strips in the cylinder to make a rectangle

The 2 rectangles should stick out of the cylinder only 1/2 an inch

Cut out 2 wavy/ organic shapes from a sheet of paper

Color both pieces with the pink marker

With the x-acto knife cut small slits on the beginning of the rectangles ( side closest to the cylinder)

Stick the organic shapes into the slits on the rectangles

The 2d drawing

The cylinder on the right side is mine and the one on the left is what another student made with the instructions given.
